Young Music Scholars Faculty


Mahjabeen Karim earned her BME from University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and earned her master’s from Northern Illinois University. She currently teaches at Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, Ravinia Reach, Teach, Play, and string technique classes at Palatine High School.

Previously, Ms. Karim was the orchestra director at District 96 schools, Half Day School, and Carmel Catholic High School. She taught chamber music at Buffalo Grove High School and Stevenson High School.

Ms. Karim also has a private studio in Vernon Hills, where she teaches violin, viola, cello, and piano. She also performs on violin and viola with Highland Park Strings, Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony847.

Ms. Karim is active as an adjudicator for solo and ensemble contests, ILMEA, and as guest clinician for orchestra festivals. Ms. Karim is a recipient of the AIM (Academy of Impact through Music) Firebird Fellowship, 2023.

In her spare time, Ms. Karim enjoys gardening, hiking, and reading.
