Midwest Young Artists (MYA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charitable/educational organization. Donations made to MYA are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and are promptly acknowledged by letter as well as inclusion in MYA concert programs. MYA realizes its responsibility to use donations prudently in order to create opportunities for its students. In our most recently audited financial statements, MYA’s fund-raising expenses were only 4% of its budget. Tuition covers only slightly more than 50% of our expenses, and over 20% of our students receive some kind of financial assistance. As a result, donations are extremely important to the financial health and well-being of our organization.
- Matching Gifts – You may be able to double or even triple your gift through matching funds from your employer. Check if your employer offers a matching gift program.
- Tribute Gifts – Any gift may be given in honor of your loved ones to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or honor a special teacher/coach. Make sure to note this with your donation.
- Gifts of Stocks and Securities – If you own appreciated securities, you can claim the full market value of the donated shares as a charitable deduction on your income tax without having to pay capital gains on the increase in value of the shares you give to MYA. - In-Kind Gifts – MYA has welcomed many non-cash gifts including instruments, LPs, services, music, firewood and furniture.

In what ways will my donation help?
Donations of any size throughout the year help, in whole or in part, make it possible for MYA to:
- Purchase new music for each ensemble
- Tune pianos and maintain instruments
- Hire sectional coaches to work with students on repertoire
- Bring in master teachers to conduct workshops and master classes
- Offer a Distinguished Lecture Series and recitals open to the community
- Take ensembles to a variety of Chicagoland community venues to perform for schoolchildren from diverse backgrounds
- Fund a work/study program to help motivated students to defray tuition
- Pay for building maintenance, including yearly maintenance and service contracts
- Pay utility bills and insurance premiums
