Program
MYA offers the Evening Wind Symphony which is geared toward serious music students who want to continue a wind ensemble experience during the summer, but are too busy during the day to participate in a full-time music festival. You can work or go to summer school and still learn great repertoire and prepare for concerts at various well-known venues. Evening programs are for students who have completed 8th through 12th grades by summer 2011.

Faculty
Dr. James Ripley, Summer Wind Symphony Conductor, is the Director of MYA's Wind Symphony Programs. Currently, he serves as the head of the music department and music education program at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI where he also conducts the Carthage Wind Orchestra and Carthage Concert Band. Mr. Ripley also serves as principal guest conductor of the Sakuyo Wind Orchestra at Sakuyo University in Kurashiki, Japan. Prior to his appointment at Carthage, Mr. Ripley served as assistant professor of conducting and ensembles at the Eastman School of Music, where he was the associate conductor of the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra, and as conductor of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble at the River Campus of the University of Rochester. Before teaching at Eastman, he was a faculty member at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and at Luther College. He taught in the public schools of Iowa and Minnesota for eleven years. Mr. Ripley holds a B.A. from Luther College, M.M from Northwestern University, and a D.M.A from the Eastman School of Music. His daughter, Jacy, is a member of the MYA Symphony Orchestra.
Student Eligibility
The summer evening programs are geared toward serious music students who want to continue their ensemble experience during the summer, but are too busy during the day to participate in a full-time music festival. Evening programs are for students who have completed 8th through 12th grades by summer 2011.
There are no required auditions for the Summer Evening Wind Symphony.
Tuition and Application
Students wishing to particiapte in evening programs must complete the Secure Online Application and submit the $75 non-refundable application fee by June 1. This application fee will be applied toward summer workshop tuition. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.
