Honors Wind Symphony
Midwest Young Artists’ Honors Wind Symphony provides talented high school students with an unparalleled musical opportunity. Students are exposed to traditional and modern band and wind ensemble literature while working with the finest conductors in the Midwest. Through a comprehensive program, students are provided with an outstanding opportunity to perform literature on par with top professional and collegiate bands in the United States. Recently this ensemble has performed at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University and Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago.
The conductor of the Honors Wind Symphony is Dr. James Ripley
Some pieces that are planned for performance in the 2010-11 season include William Schuman’s "When Jesus Wept" and "Chester", and Samuel Barber’s "Medea’s Meditation and Dance of Vengeance", Shostakovich’s "Folk Festival", Joaquin Rodrigo’s "Adagio for Wind Orchestra", and one major symphony.
Rehearsal Schedule - Fall 2010
Mondays, 7:30-9:30 PM, at the MYA Center at Ft. Sheridan
Attendance Policy
Accepted students may only miss 2 scheduled rehearsals for each concert unless permission is obtained by the Director.
Tuition
Tuition Fee for the 2010-11 season is $680. Students enrolled in another MYA large ensemble will recieve a second ensemble discount.
Audition Requirements
- 2 prepared pieces expressing technical skill and tone color (etudes acceptable)
- Students should prepare all 12 major scales
