
One of Chicago's busiest and most sought after musicians, jazz trumpeter Orbert Davis has recorded over 3,000 television and radio commercials and many record projects for such notable artists as Ramsey Lewis, Kurt Elling, and Oscar Lopez to name a few. Winner of the 1995 Cognac Hennessy National Jazz Search, Orbert was chosen one of Chicago Tribune's "1995 Arts People of the Year". Chicago Magazine named him "Y2k Best Trumpeter in Chicago" and "Chicagoan of the Year for 2002".
Orbert is co-founder and Executive Director of MusicAlive! (a comprehensive music curriculum for at-risk youth), and has a bachelors degree in trumpet performance from DePaul University and a masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University.
Unmatchable in the Chicago area, Midwest Young Artists’ jazz program provides students with the most comprehensive instruction citywide. Consisting of three big bands, six combos, and classes in jazz theory and history, MYA jazz students have the opportunity to perform with internationally acclaimed guest artists in premiere jazz and concert venues throughout Chicago and beyond. The MYA Jazz Program, directed by Nic Meyer, has been featured on Harry Porterfield’s Someone You Should Know series and on CBS 2.
