What are you doing now? Do you still play your instrument?
I am currently a studio artist with Central City Opera in Central City, Colorado, for the second consecutive summer. I am starting my DMA studies at CCM in fall 2010 where I have a teaching assistantship, and therefore, am still performing and singing on a regular basis. I am also a State-Tested Nursing Assistant in Ohio, where I work for Black Stone Health Care.
Were you nervous for the competition?
I think everyone is nervous for competitions. I definitely was, and still am for any competition I do! I focus on the music, what I want to communicate to the audience, and the fact that I compete with myself more than I do with anyone else in the competition.
What is your advice for participants in the 15th Annual Walgreens Concerto Competition?
Choose repertoire that shows off the best of your abilities and repertoire that you enjoy playing/singing! Don't think of the competition as a battle against your peers, but as an opportunity to improve and showcase your unique talents.
